Kairos Dual Channel Looper (Reason 13)
This is a combinator effect made for and with Reason 13 and its stock devices. It was inspired by the SOMA COSMOS DRIFTING MEMORY STATION.
Kairos provides two channels of looping memory, with a loop length from approximately 1.5 seconds to 16 seconds. The two channels are slightly offset from each other in length and panned hard left and right. This attributes to its ever changing and ever drifting nature.
Inside the feedback loop are various effects;
- BLUR - cross-feedbacks and modulates the loop, creating a rich reverb-like texture
- SUR - a suppressor which ducks the loop, allowing for new sounds and recordings to take over
- COM - a compressor to control the level of the loop, useful when experimenting with DRIVE
- DRIVE, LPF and HPF - a distortion algorithm, high pass and low pass filter buttons
Since the above effects are in the feedback loop, you may tend to not "set and forget" such effects. Rather, gently bring them until you enjoy the sound you are hearing, and then pull them back.
Outside the feedback loop are more effects (Post-FX) - these you can play with, without forever impacting the memory;
- DRIFT - randomly pans the two channels around the stereo spectrum
- SPACE + SIZE - a variable sized reverb that ranges from small room to long attack reverb, perfect for turning any sound into an ambient wash
- WOB - introduces tape wobble
- GLI - introduces tape wobble, noise as well as a random stutter effect
You can independently record onto each channel using the CH1 and CH2 buttons. Hit REC to record into the memory, if REC is OFF then any input will pass directly into the Post-FX section.
MONO sets both channels to the center - if you prefer to use this device as a standard looper pedal. You can also hit TIME SYNC to sync the loop times to the project tempo.
